Simon Graham – Levens recce, 4th July 2026

Published by admin on

After calling in at TruckHeaven on the way for refreshments and toilets, we’ll be dropped off by Ian just after Levens Hall which will save us crossing a busy road.

We walk down to Levens Bridge where we go through an awkward gate to reach the bank of the River Kent. Wandering along the bank and up the gentle incline we may see deer and goats before we go through a gate on top of a wall and walk in the shade of trees, to make our way under the A590. We then walk along Nannypie Lane to reach a wooden suspension bridge which we use to cross the river.

We now follow the river until we reach Hawes Bridge where we turn away from the river and start heading back to Levens, passing Lakrigg Hall Bridge on the way. Walking through Lakrigg Spring Wood along the bank of a canal that was never completed will give us plenty of shade before we come out into the open and head towards the strange sight of a bridge standing in the middle of a field. After this we carry on walking along the disused canal and across the Sedgwick Aqueduct where we can look down onto the village of Sedgwick before continuing along the disused canal and crossing a field to head down to the bridge crossing the A590.

A short distance later we go back into the Levens Hall grounds and walk through an avenue of ancient trees (some hollow but still alive) to get back to Levens Bridge. You may notice that new trees have been planted on the stumps of old trees to keep the look of the avenue. Again look out for herds of deer and the black and white Bagot’s Goats.

When we get back to the bridge and go through the gate please be careful when crossing the road to Levens Hall and follow the instructions from the walk leaders. After toilets and refreshments we will be returned to the Fylde Coast by Ian.

The walk is about 7 miles with no steep climbs and less than 400ft of ascent for the day. We hope you enjoy the walk. Chris and Simon
