Chris Butler – Witherslack recce, 25th July 2024

Witherslack is a small village just off the A590 in South Cumbria, not far from Levens Hall.

The walk starts in the village and we head up the valley. Once we leave the road, we head slowly up through some quiet woodland to a great viewpoint where we’ll take a moment to admire the Winster valley. Moving onwards, we head to Yewbarrow, with the best views of the day. We have a panorama, which includes the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay, providing we have good weather!! This could well be our lunch stop, unless it’s raining.
We move on to go past Witherslack Hall Farm and head towards Chapel Head Scar, where we take the woodland path beneath the scar to Beck Head. From there, it’s down quiet lanes, past a picturesque hamlet and back to Witherslack.
We end the walk at the Derby Arms, which serves hot and cold drinks,

The walk is just less than 6 miles and climbs between 400 and 500 feet (less than my Cartmel walk).
I hope you enjoy your day. Chris Butler.
