Margaret Sowerby – Staveley recce, 21st May 2024

Published by admin on

We stop at Truckhaven for toilets and refreshments before reaching Staveley. We will then be dropped off almost opposite the start of the walk. Crossing the road we start our uphill part of the day’s walk and get a great view across the fields. After half a mile we start downwards, pass the church and cross Barley Bridge with its weir. We now walk back towards Staveley and pass a muddy section, a couple of stiles and gates and a sewage works before walking along a road for a short distance. We turn in and walk along the river bank, passing the new bridge and Cowan Head apartments before lunch after about 3 miles.
After lunch we carry on next to the river until we reach Bowston Bridge which we cross and head back towards Staveley on the other side of the river, passing the new bridge again, until we arrive in the village where you’ll find Wilf’s Cafe, Hawkshead Brewery and the Artisan Bakery. The walk is under 7 miles and under 300ft for the day. Hope you enjoy the walk, Margaret.
