Dave Blant – Rivington recce, 8th of May 2024

After being picked up by the coach we drive straight to the Great Barn, where there are toilets and a lovely cafe for our morning break. We’ll leave the Barn at about 10.30am and commence along the track on the left hand side of the road, through a little wooded area then back on the road to go past the Old Post Office and then through a break in the wall into fields.
We walk along through fields and woodland, past reservoirs and constant wonderful displays of Bluebells. We now reach Rivington reservoir, where we have a view to die for whilst we eat our lunch, and might be entertained by the lambs.
After lunch we carry on walking past Anglezarke Reservoir then left through a wooded area. Here we do come across some mud, nothing deep and very short lived, then up some steps (not as many as Hurst Green), to come out at the top onto fields. There are no hills on this walk only gentle inclines, 2 in all.
We then walk over fields, ending our walk at the Bowling Club where cakes, tea, coffee and alcoholic drinks are served.
On the walk, for a bit of fun, spot the name of the creature that “Will love you always”, and the second challenge is “find the dog”.
Come along for a lovely scenic walk with lovely people. The walk is just over 6.5 miles with only one stile and 7 gates, and a promise of good weather. Dave and Carol
