Dave Blant – Skelwith Bridge recce, 20th May 2023

Published by admin on

We recced the walk on Saturday in perfect weather. After our stop at Truckhaven for refreshments and toilets (there won’t be any more till the end of the walk), we’ll be dropped off at Skelwith Bridge. From there we walk to Skelwith Force then use the bridge to cross the River Brathay and with some gentle ups and downs begin our 1.5 mile walk towards Colwith Force waterfall for our lunch stop at approximately 1pm. After lunch there is a steady climb (just take your time) to reach High Park Tea Garden (no, we’re not stopping), and then it’s downhill to reach Cathedral Cave. We’ll stop here for those members who want to go up to the cave, and then we’ll move on to Slater’s Bridge. Once crossed we go up again (at your own pace), then after about a mile we go down into Elterwater for a flat walk along the River Brathay and Elter Water back to Skelwith Bridge where there is a cafe and a pub. The distance was 6.32 miles, there was 720ft of going up (which Carol managed without a struggle), and there were 5 stiles. We hope you enjoy the day, Dave and Carol.

PS: remember that it’s a Bank Holiday so we may not be back before 6pm
