Simon Graham – Rivington, 21st August 2021
We set off on an overcast day with a poor weather forecast but surprisingly 26 walkers on the coach. We were dropped off at The Barn Tea Rooms for drinks and toilets, before starting the walk in heavy rain (see below).
We left The Barn Tea Rooms in the heaviest rain that we had all day, and it gradually cleared and occasionally stopped completely. No one got soaked through and at times people walked without jackets as the day warmed up. This time at Rivington there was no torrent coming down the slipway so we posed for a group photo on the opposite side, in front of the reservoir. We saw a fairy ring of mushrooms and sat for lunch with a lovely view of the reservoir and a closely grouped trio of trees. There was plenty of mud (which seemed to be a theme with Dave’s walks) and some climbing with the necessary stop for a breather. Thankfully we ended the walk in dry weather and good spirits, with time for a drink before Ian arrived with the coach for the journey home. An enjoyable day out with friends, and thanks to Dave and Carol for a lovely walk.
