Chris Butler – Milnthorpe to Arnside recce, 14th March

Published by admin on

This is a pleasant, easy walk of around 5 or 6 miles.
We’ll have a coffee stop at Truckhaven and then the coach will drop us in Milnthorpe.
We walk a short distance alongside the River Bela and then into Dallam Park. From here, we head up towards Haverbrack, past Wray Cottage and into the woods. There has been some recent tree-felling around here, so be prepared for some mud, if we’ve had a lot of rain!
Then it’s across the fields to Hazelslack Tower. We walk down a quiet lane and head towards the estuary, crossing the main road carefully. The path then leads us alongside the estuary into Arnside with fine views of the Lake District fells, if the sun is shining!
Once in Arnside, depending on the time and the weather, it may be possible to extend the walk along the beach and rocks at Arnside onto New Barns Bay and then loop back into Arnside along the back lane. This would be an optional extra, and some people may prefer to stay at Arnside instead of doing the extra loop.
The coach will pick us up at the bus stop in Arnside for our journey home. Enjoy!
