Simon Graham – Ambleside to Grasmere recce, 11th October 2025

I will be leading a 6 mile linear walk from Ambleside to Grasmere on Saturday the 11^th of October. We will be stopping at Truckhaven on the way before we continue through Windermere and onto Ambleside. Ian will drop us off opposite the gates to Rydal Park where we need to exit the coach quickly and cross the road carefully. We then take a track through Rydal Park to reach Rydal Mount where we will have lunch. There are toilets and a café available. After lunch we walk through the grounds of Rydal Church to Dora’s Field, exiting again onto the A591 by The Badger Bar, again taking care crossing a busy road. On the other side of the road we cross a bridge and then walk by the side of Rydal Water. The views are fabulous and the leaves are starting to turn so we should get some good photos. We then walk along Grasmere shore and after a slight incline continue along the road into Grasmere. There are pubs and cafes for refreshments, The Grasmere Gingerbread shop (usually busy and card only) and Wordsworth’s grave. Ian will be parked in the car park ready to take us home. Fingers crossed for good weather and an enjoyable walk. Simon
